The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) is the international not-for-profit, research and development arm of the School of Translational Science based within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. The Institute collaborates internationally with over 70 entities across the world. The Institute and its collaborating entities promote and support the synthesis, transfer and utilization of evidence through identifying feasible, appropriate, meaningful and effective healthcare practices to assist in the improvement of healthcare outcomes.

The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) is NHW's preferred stop after Prompt for policy, procedure and guidelines.  JBI is one of the world's leading evidence-based practice (EBP) organisations. JBI's evidence-based practice resources assist healthcare professionals to implement an effective evidence-based practice program to provide the best possible patient care.

Manuals:

  • NOTE:   The JBI Acute Care Practice Manual (Prompt document) is no longer being updated.  All content is available as either Evidence Summaries or Recommended Practices within the JBI Evidence Based Practice database and can be located by searching from the JBI landing page.

    • JBI Evidence-Based Carers Manual for Personal Care Workers employed in residential aged care organisations to provide care to consumers living in one of their homes and is based on Recommended Practices that relate to aged care.

    • JBI Aged Care Evidence-Based Practice Manual is a comprehensive resource which complements and extends from the JBI Carers Manual. Developed with industry leaders including Nursing Directors, public and private sector experts and safety and quality representatives, this manual includes evidence for advanced care needs.

  • Journals:

    • JBI Evidence Implementation 2020 onwards [Preceded by International Journal of Evidence-Based Healthcare] This journal addresses the science and practice of evidence implementation and pragmatically shows how to get evidence into practice. It emphasizes implementation methodology by showcasing papers from diverse clinical, cultural, and socioeconomic contexts. Those who utilize JBI’s software suite for their EBP projects can publish their results in JBI Evidence Implementation.

    • JBI Evidence Synthesis - Ranked as a Q1 publication since 2023 in the nursing category, this multidisciplinary journal brings together relevant information on a wide range of research questions to inform health policy and practice. In addition to systematic reviews, it also includes the latest guidance for evidence synthesis methodology and methods, such as how to assess risk of bias, as well as best practices for healthcare education.

    • International Journal of Evidence Based Health Care [Now JBI Evidence Implementation] is a fully refereed journal that publishes original scholarly work from the international Joanna Briggs Institute and Collaboration. The Institute aims to advance the international understanding and development of evidence-based practice in multidisciplinary healthcare, including nursing, midwifery, nutrition and dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complimentary therapy, medical radiation and podiatry.
